Tourism industry further burdened

An urgent meeting convened on the joint initiative of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and the Malta Federation of Industry, together with a number of bodies and associations including FATTA, GRTU, FMHPCE, and MGRA, discussed the revised MTA contributions – yet another issue that has left the tourism industry stunned.

The bodies, representing all sectors of the trade categorically deplore the added burden being imposed by the MTA. Such contributions were increased in an unacceptable manner and in a way which is haphazard, excessive and destructive to the industry.

The decision was unilaterally imposed and without consultation with all the constituted bodies and associations concerned.

The Bodies are surprised at the approach being used, which, they emphasise, shows minimal increases in some cases and yet in other cases is up by some 2000 per cent.

The Bodies strongly urge the Malta Tourism Authority to comply with its own mission statement and consult with representatives of its stakeholders to revise the tariffs and truly protect the public/ private co-operative philosophy originally projected.
