BUPA deemed Best International Insurer

Just one week after accepting the Best International Insurer Award at the Health Insurance Awards 2000, BUPA International has been awarded the FT Business Offshore Excellence Award in the category of Best International Insurer - the fifth prestigious award for BUPA in just over a year.

A spokesperson for BUPA explained how these awards are recognised as the leading events in the international financial services industry and serve as a tribute to all those connected with the company.

BUPA Malta has been in operation since 1971 and was the insurers first international branch and was initially set up to provide health insurance schemes to English ex-patriots.

BUPA Malta has come a long way since then and now covers some 60,000 people.

In Malta, BUPA offers a range of schemes providing cover for out-patient and in-patient treatment in private clinics and private hospitals, as well as overseas. These schemes have at all times been designed to provide for the prevailing needs of residents of the Maltese Islands.

BUPA is in a unique position in that it has no shareholders or others individuals who scoop away the profits at the end of the fiscal year. This means that any and all surplus income at the end of the year is re-invested into health care in order to fulfil the founding concept of the organisation – to provide better and more affordable health care to the population as a whole.
