Mediterranean Conference Centre registers another busy year - to host 600-strong IBM conference in October The Mediterranean Conference Centre, with its special features, is truly unique. Away from the cluttered environment of high-rise meeting places and far from the din of endless traffic jams, the MCC has all the benefits of ultra modern technology set in an oasis of historical tranquillity. An ongoing restoration and maintenance program has retained the unique historical character of the Centre, enabling it to handle major international conferences, exhibitions, banquets and theatrical events. The MCC is the flagship of conference venues on the island, and is known for its quality services and extensive facilities. Over the years, the Mediterranean Conference Centre has played host to a number of top level companies, government agencies and State functions. Amongst the impressive list of clients are Texaco, Ford, Citroen, Mazda, ICI, IBM, Ericsson, Pfizer, Philips, Nortel, Air Liquide, Glaxo Wellcome, Solexa, Diflucan, Pharmacia, Aventis as well as various United Nations agencies, the Council of Europe and Commonwealth organisations. MCC in conjunction with local handling agent, Events Travel & Incentives Ltd., hosted the Air Liquide Conference, entitled "I Cavalieri del Terzo Millenio", on 12 March 2001. In just over six months, the MCC and Events Travel have combined their resources to handle international conferences such as Glaxo Wellcome, Pfizer, Solexa, Diflucan, Air Liquide and Pharmacia. MCC, together with the other major Maltese agent, Colours of Malta Ltd., organised the Philips DAP Conference on 16 and 17 March 2001. Over 600 delegates from 30 countries attended. A crew of over 50 persons transformed the Republic Hall into a mediaeval setting around which the conference was themed. In the past few months, MCC and Colours of Malta have collaborated to organise large-scale international conferences such as Ericsson Learn 2000 and Aventis. Next August the combined resources of MCC and Colours of Malta will be handling another international conference for Jansen Cielac. Between 22 and 26 of October 2001, MCC will host another large-scale international conference for IBM with 600 delegates. Today, MCC covers a total area of some 7000 square metres and boasts 5 halls that can be put to a variety of uses that are all equipped with simultaneous interpretation facilities and audio-visual equipment. To supplement the needs of today, there are 11 Syndicate Rooms that can be used as offices. At 155 metres in length, Dar Il-Wiri or the Long Ward as it is also known, is used as the main exhibition hall of the Centre, and can easily cater for Product Launches. This magnificent hall is also regularly used for banqueting functions accommodating up to 1400 persons comfortably seated, or over 2500 for stand up cocktail receptions. The La Valette Hall is an outstanding architectural gem that can accommodate 1500 persons for stand up cocktail receptions and 900 persons for sit down functions. The versatility and size of the several meeting halls and syndicate rooms allow the Centre to service conferences and meetings of any size. The Mediterranean Conference Centre is the largest and only conference and convention centre on the Island. The Centre has the single largest auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,400 and can accommodate over 2,400 delegates in all the conference halls. The MCC has reaffirmed itself as the leader in the provision of conference and incentive services not only in Malta but also in Europe and the whole of the Mediterranean basin.
