MIM awards Marlene Mizzi for achievements in management

The Malta Institute of Management has nominated Marlene Mizzi as Lifelong Honorary Member of the Institute for her exceptional achievements in the field of management over the recent years, particularly during her post as Chairman of Sea Malta. She is the first woman to be nominated for the prestigious award.

In an MIM publication, Mrs Mizzi was described as a woman with a clear vision and an exceptional leadership style, which has encouraged a number of major positive changes within Sea Malta’s structure and way of conducting business.

Speaking about the award, Mr Mizzi pointed out, "Whilst few women do occupy top managerial posts within local institutions, I firmly believe that the choice of who should run organisations should be based on competencies and capabilities and not on whether one is a male or female."

Prior to her engagement with Sea Malta, Mrs Mizzi had held a number of executive posts both locally and overseas including, those in the banking sector in Finland and Switzerland as well as managerial posts in the local industry.

In 1981, she set up her own company - Amca Limited, through which she operates four retail outlets in Rabat and Valletta.

The company also holds the well-known British franchise of educational toys, The Early Learning Centre. Mrs Mizzi has worked in London for Storehouse Plc (Mothercare) and at John Menzies Plc (ELC) in the marketing and buying departments.

Over the years, Mrs Mizzi has also held a number of directorship posts. She is presently Chairman of Millennium Insurance Agency and Medfeeder Co Ltd, as well as director of Bank of Valletta. She is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce where to date she is the only female member of the Chamber’s Council. She held an officer’s post within the Chamber as Honorary Secretary in 1992.
