Inflation up to 2.42%, RPI up 0.31%

Yesterday the National Statistics Office reported that Malta’s rate of inflation grew to 2.42 per cent over September. The rate is the highest since November last year, when it had stood at 2.56 per cent.

Meanwhile, the NSO also reports that the retail price index has also climbed, by 0.31 per cent – 0.36 points and reached 117.66.

Amongst the categories monitored over September, the food index was the highest climber and grew by 0.98 points, or 0.81 per cent, over that of August. Price increases were recorded in fresh and frozen meat, bacon, ham and tinned meat, preserved fish, potatoes, fresh vegetables and fresh fruits. Meanwhile, price decreases were registered in fresh fish.

The Durable Household Goods index grew by 0.32 points or 0.30 per cent. Higher average prices were recorded for furniture and floor coverings, while lower average prices for soft furnishings were also noted.

Higher average prices for certain medicinal products saw the Personal Care and Health index increase by 0.43 points or 0.35 per cent.

Finally, the Other Goods and Services index increased by 0.14 points or 0.13 per cent. Higher average prices for clocks, watches and jewellery were observed during the month.
