President on state visit to Germany

President Guido de Marco left Malta on Monday for a state visit to Germany. During the visit, the President will be meeting the highest authorities of the state including President Johannes Rau, Chancellor Gerard Schroeder, and Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, among other prominent politicians. Foreign Minister Joe Borg will be accompanying the President.
The President’s delegation includes Malta’s Ambassador in Berlin, the Rector of the University, the Chairman of AirMalta, METCO and MDC, and the Presidents of the FOI and the Chamber of Commerce. Members of the delegation will be conducting separate meetings and activities during the course of the visit.
The itinerary of the visit includes Heidelberg, Stuttgart and Berlin. The President is also expected to deliver a lecture at the University of Heidelberg and address invitees at the European Union Representative Office in Berlin.
In Stuttgart, the programme of the President includes talks with the Minister President of Land Baden-Wurttemberg, a visit to the Head Office of Daimler-Chrysler, and discussions with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
In Berlin, President Rau will be hosting a state dinner in honour of the President and Mrs de Marco. The President will also meet the newly-elected Mayor and attend a working luncheon with the Association of Commerce and Industry. Members of the Maltese community will meet the President at the Embassy of Malta.
The President return to Malta on Friday.
