Portanier Brothers and GWU in talks

The management at Portanier Brothers has accepted to retain at least 12 clerical and technical workers on a temporary basis until the company’s books are closed.

The arrangement was reached after a meeting held yesterday between the General Workers’ Union and the management following the closure of the company after 7UP’s transfer to Farsons’ portfolio. The union said that the management has also offered the technical staff to work on a company project in Libya.

During the meeting it was agreed that the collective agreement would remain in force until the last employee’s job is terminated. Portanier Brothers are expected to pass on their share to the union’s Welfare Fund, the amount will then be distributed among the members of the fund.
