Dowty Automotive secures new business with Honeywell Garrett

Dowty Automotive (Malta) Ltd recently secured new business for the supply of O Rings to Honeywell Garrett to the tune of an initial value of Lm0.25million per year.

Garrett is recognised around the world as leading manufacturer of turbo systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and heavy-duty trucks. As a result of the contract signed last week, the first O Ring orders have already been placed to be delivered to Garrett’s plant in Italy.

During a meeting held in the company’s headquarters in Brussels between representatives of Honeywell Garrett and Dowty Automotive (Malta) Ltd, Garrett’s senior management expressed their confidence that the lean manufacturing initiatives being taken by the Malta plant and the building of World Class facilities in Hal Far will further enhance Dowty’s competitiveness.

As the demand for diesel powered engines continues to grow steadily, Honeywell Garrett has increased its supply of turbo chargers. In Europe, they are producing more than five million turbo units annually. The focus is on manufacturing more environmentally friendly systems, to achieve better fuel economy and to innovate by developing turbo chargers that are smaller in size yet deliver better performance. In Europe, Honeywell Garrett has plants in France, Italy, UK, Romania and Ireland.

Having secured this contract, the challenge for Dowty Automotive (Malta) Ltd now is to become the preferred O Ring Supplier of to Honeywell Garrett.

Dowty Automotive (Malta) Ltd. supplies engineered O Rings to world class manufacturers of automotive systems. The company has its’ own state of the art rubber mixing facility and in-house tooling capabilities.

Dowty Automotive (Malta) Ltd. is currently undergoing a re-structuring exercise which will see it leaving the old, very large factory in Mriehel, and moving into seven, purpose built, smaller manufacturing units at Hal Far. Each unit will serve a specific automotive market sector. This move together with the restructuring initiative will allow the creation of a much leaner, more agile environment that will greatly improve Dowty’s Quality, Cost and Delivery performance to its global customer base.
