New Graduands in MSM MIM programmes

The Graduation of Maastricht School of Management and the Malta Institute of Management programmes for this year was held on 11 April 2007. This year’s ceremony was an important one as it crystallises a ten year collaboration between the Maastricht School of Management and the Malta Institute of Management; a collaboration that has led to approximately 200 graduands Master in Business Administration, 160 Diploma, 12 Master in Philosophy and five (5) Doctorate in Business Administration..
The ceremony was officially opened by Mr. Lawrence Mizzi, President of the Malta Institute of Management who said that MIM’s continuous investment in education is a sign of its commitment to ensure excellence in the management profession in Malta. Mr. Mizzi congratulated the students but stressed that this is not the finish line but the start line towards continuous development. It is only in this manner, Mr. Mizzi, said that we can remain ahead of our old and new competitors. MIM is committed to invest in our education and personal development services. The Institute is taking an active part in the consultation process initiated by both the Malta Qualification Council and the National Commission for Higher Education, Mr. Mizzi informed. This in order to ensure the highest level of education in our country and to ensure that there are no further anomalies in the education systems on the island.
The Ceremony was also addressed by Hon Mr Carmelo Abela, Deputy Speaker and Main Opposition Spokesperson for Education, Youth and Sports. Hon Mr. Abela emphasised on the importance of education not only at an individual level but also at a national level. If Malta is to remain competitive, more and more investment in education is necessary. Investment alone is not the key to success tough it is crucial, Hon Abela said. It should be one of the main priorities to take all the necessary measures not to have students falling behind in their early years at school. The Deputy Speaker lauded the Malta Institute of Management for its effort in ensuring management excellence in Malta and in contributing towards Malta’s development.
The ceremony proceeded with various speeches from the new graduates. Amongst these, there was the Doctorate Graduate, Dr. Vanessa Borg, also a Council Member of the Malta Institute of Management. Dr. Borg highlighted the commitment needed to education in her introductory words “To do a doctorate you need to have ‘fire in your belly’. I would not have survived without passion towards what it is worth.” The importance of continuous education could not have been better expressed by “I ascertain that the phrase ‘I don’t know’ is supplemented by the phrase ‘I don’t know but I will source the information’. I am not embarrassed in not knowing it all. The more you know the more you know how much you don’t know.” “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish for knowledge and yearn for more. We are all life-time students” concluded Dr. Borg.
The ceremony was concluded by the conferment of the Degrees by Professor Dragan Nikolik, Profession of E-Business and Board Member at Maastricht School of Management.
At the ceremony there were various distinguished guests including His Excellency Mr. Jan Heidsma as well as representatives from constituted bodies.
The Graduation ceremony endorsed a year’s effort for MIM who is continuously investing in education. During the last year MIM group had over 1,500 participants in its various activities. MIM training arm is now recognised as the leading Management and Business School in Malta, amongst other things. MIM commits itself to take an even more leading and proactive role in order to contribute to Malta’s economic growth. MIM will shortly be launching new activities in this respect.
