A group of youths, union members and officials from the Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM) recently took part in a digital video conference (DVC) with Professor Richard B. Freeman, Faculty Director of the Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard Law School.
The conference took place in the Embassy of the United States of America in Floriana and was a professionally enriching experience for all the participants.
The main issues discussed during the DVC were differences in industrial relations in the United States (US) and Europe, globalisation, the trends of employment in the United States, Trade Unions and the transition of young workers into the labour market.
Professor Freeman expressed his appreciation for the animated discussion and offered valuable advice to the union officials.
UHM Youths’ President Nicholas Baldacchino said such an experience was a golden opportunity to discuss a number of important issues informally with one of the leading figures in Industrial Relations studies in the US.
He emphasized the importance of broadening one’s horizons and looking to other countries, such as the US, to obtain a broader vision of various issues which are having an impact on the whole world.
Baldacchino thanked the American Embassy for the opportunity. |
