Black dust gathering at Maghtab The four tonnes of black dust collected daily through new equipment at the Marsa Power Station, is currently being dumped at the Maghtab landfill, economic services minister, Josef Bonnici, said yesterday. Prof. Bonnici said he was pleased to announce that the electrostatic precipitators of the power station, which have not been working properly for a number of years, have been repaired over the last weeks. "This will lead to less black dust being emitted from the chimneys, through investment in the system to make the repairs," he said. The minister explained that the dust was previously left to diffuse in the air, which was contributing to the black dust problem. Enemalta is examining other measures to decrease emissions from the power station. Prof. Bonnici said that Enemalta is looking at some alternative uses for the four tonnes of black dust collected through the precipitators. "We believe it can be used efficiently, as there are still some untapped energy particles in it," he concluded. |
