An overall increase was registered in the sea transport between Malta and Gozo in the first quarter of this year when compared to the same period last year. In the transport of passengers an increase of 4.8 percent was noted from the year 2000. The number of commercial vehicles ferried also increased by 3.3 percent. A total of 4,506 trips carried out between Malta and Gozo. During the first quarter of this year there was a drop of 1.6 percent over the same period of the year 2000. There was a substantial increase of 12 percent in the transportation of vehicles. During the second quarter of this year with a total of 862,555 passengers travelling between Malta and Gozo an increase of 33,606 passengers was marked from last year. The number of commercial vehicles carried by ferry increased by 2.9 percent while the number of trips carried out from April to June 2001 decreased by 1.9 percent over the same period last year. An increase of 17,498 vehicles were transported when compared to the same period last year. |
