Corinthia awards Maltese joint venture largest contract ever

In a prime example of how Maltese businesses can co-operate to achieve aims otherwise beyond their reach, the Corinthia Group yesterday announced it had awarded a Maltese joint venture a furniture and joinery contract for its 300-room Corinthia Hotel Tripoli.

The contract, the largest such contract ever awarded to a Maltese company, was given to InterProgetti - a joint venture between FXB, Fino and Joinwell - following an international call for tenders.

Alfred Pisani, Corinthia Group Chairman and CEO commneted yesterday, "This is an excellent example of how Maltese companies can cooperate to take on bigger jobs than they would otherwise be able to handle alone. I am delighted that we have been able to award the contract to a Maltese joint venture. This is a good indication of how Maltese industry can cope with, and beat, international competition."

Mr Pisani and the Corinthia Group’s Board of Directors visited the Fino plant at Mriehel yesterday, where they viewed the sample room and the furniture being manufactured. The Corinthia Directors were welcomed by Lawrence Fino, Carlo Fino and Martin Galea.

The hotel furniture has been designed by a British company, GA Design, but is being manufactured from start to finish at the Fino and Joinwell plants in Malta and the FXB plant in Gozo.

A spokesman for Interprogetti said, "The venture is working well, and each of the companies involved has brought its own particular competitive advantage to the group. The Corinthia Tripoli Hotel contract has given us an unparalleled opportunity to show what we can do. It is the largest export project we have worked on."
