Mediation skills training seminar next week

A Mediation Skills Training Seminar is being held on 8 April 2002 at Le Meridien Phoenicia, Floriana. The seminar is being organised by the Concordia Centre for Conciliation and Mediation Services in collaboration with Appogg, the Foundation for Human Resource Development and CDR Associates [USA].

CDR Associates is one of the leading conflict management organisations in the world with over 20 years experience in providing conflict resolution services, decision making assistance, negotiation and mediation training. CDR Associates have trained tens of thousands of people around the world in customised seminars designed to meet the unique needs of organisations and individual participants. Since 1978 CDR Associates has worked with over 4,500 clients as facilitators of effective decision-making meetings and mediators of a wide range of disputes. CDR Associates has also trained over 30,000 people in co-operative problem-solving and conflict management skills. The seminar will address topics on how mediation and conflict management may help in the workplace and how mediation can be of benefit in community and family disputes.

The seminar is for people from all professional and work backgrounds – lawyers, therapists, counsellors, human resource managers, customer care personnel, union leaders, government officials, executives, therapists, counsellors, health care providers, religious leaders, educators and community leaders.

The seminar will be led by Dr Christopher Moore, Ph.D.,Director CDR Associates. Moore has worked in the collaborative problem solving and conflict resolution field since 1975, as a trainer, mediator, facilitator, consultant, and dispute resolution systems designer. He has consulted with organisations across the United States, and twenty-six countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East, North and South America, and the Ocean-Pacific region.

Moore is a recognised author in the fields of negotiation, facilitated problem-solving and mediation. The Mediation Process: Practical Strategies for Resolving Conflict (San Francisco, CA:Jossey-Bass) 1986, and Natural Resource Conflict Management (ROMCOE, 1982) have been acclaimed by numerous reviewers as the standard text for dispute resolution. In addition, Moore served as editor for Mediation Quarterly, which focuses on specific procedures for the phases of negotiated problem-solving.

A certificate of attendance will be presented to each participant. Participants will be eligible to apply for an extensive Conflict Management and Mediation Skills Training Course later this year.
