Preparations for the Malta-Libya Shopping Festival being organised by the Libyan-Maltese Chamber of Commerce in Tripoli, Libya in November 2002 are now in full swing with the conclusion of negotiations with Libyan Authorities for the approval of all necessary permits to hold the Festival. Further negotiations between the Libyan and Maltese authorities are now in progress, following the suggestion put forward by the Libyan-Maltese Chamber to the authorities of both countries, so that the customs duty payable by Maltese companies for goods imported into Libya for the Festival will not exceed 10 per cent. The request, if accepted, would be on a bilateral bases, since the Chamber will also be organising a similar event in Malta, when a Libyan Shopping Festival will be staged here on the same lines as the one happening in November in Tripoli. The Chamber explains it has already received a considerable amount of enquiries from Maltese companies looking to participate in the Festival, which is being considered as a unique opportunity for the Maltese businessmen to obtain a first hand reaction from the Libyan consumer regarding their products, since sales at the Festival will be effected on cash and carry basis. This Festival, which is being organised during the holy month of Ramadan will also include a sales area for Malta Made goods or goods from Maltese companies who hold exclusive distributor rights for the Libyan market. Another section of the exhibition will feature other Maltese-made goods and services that are not sold to consumers, together with local folklore and art that will entertain the large crowds expected to visit the Festival at the Tripoli International Fair Grounds during its nine-day duration. Further information can be obtained from the Libyan Malta Chamber of Commerce on Tel 21 33366 or Fax 21 332734 or from the sales agents 21 412807, 21 413893, 21 417428 or Fax 21 414120.
