Outstanding results for Institute of Financial Services students

Financial services students coming from the Central Bank of Malta, Bank of Valletta and HSBC have recently attained outstanding results in their examinations leading to the joint award of ACIB and BSc Financial Services awarded by the Institute of Financial Services (UK) and the University of Manchester (UMIST).

In a recent ceremony held at the prestigious London Guildhall, twelve Maltese students were conferred with the degree of Bachelor of Science (Financial Services) by Professor John Garside, Principal and Vice–Chancellor at the University of Manchester. Also present for the ceremony where Professor Daniel Darmanin, Dean at the University of Malta, Charles Borg, President Institute of Financial Services (IFS Malta) and relatives of the grandaunts.

This was an exceptional year for the local students since where two students were awarded the Council Prize in the field of International Trade Finance and Insurance. Joseph Agius, Administration Manager, HSBC Fund Management (Malta) Ltd obtained the highest mark in the International Trade Finance examinations worldwide. Rudolf Gatt, Internal Auditor, Bank of Valletta plc, was awarded the coveted price for his achievement as best student worldwide in the field of Insurance.

Prof Daniel Darmanin also presented Mark Agius, Private Clients Executive, Bank of Valletta plc, with an award for his achievement as the local student attaining the highest overall grade in the final exams.

Evening courses leading to the joint award of the Associateship and BSc Financial Services are run jointly by the IFS (Malta) and the University of Malta on Campus at tal-Qroqq. The qualification carries widespread local and international recognition. It is also acknowledged by the MFSC as an acceptable qualification for licensed financial advisors when students read for the Investment Management Module.
