Fuji Laboratories Malta, at its greatly enlarged premises for one year now, is capitalising on the recent boom of interest in the digital imagery market, while also making the most of the vast range of photo retouching services made avaliable to it through the recent purchase of a new state of the art Fuji Frontier Digital Minilab System.

The new Fuji Frontier allows the Malta laboratory, run by the Ciancio family – renowned in photographic circles – to reach exceptional levels in traditional silver halide print quality, improves workflow and allows users to provide the consumer with multiple service options, including output from both film and digital sources.

Utilising a solid-state laser exposure system, Frontier Digital Lab Systems provide revolutionary print quality at high speeds. Hyper-Tone image processing performs advanced custom printing functions, while Hyper-Sharpness image processing compensates for film grain.

However, in contrast to what one would expect from a minilab system of this magnitude, the minilab boasts a system that combines cartridges for several chemicals into one easy-to-change package. The package is very stable and minimises the waste and labour associated with the management of photographic chemicals.

The LP-1500 laser printer/paper processor minimises flare and maintains optimum sharpness, even on large prints, and virtually eliminates colour contamination to ensure smooth and accurate colour gradation.

When used in conjunction with Fuji's Photo Imaging Controller, the Frontier minilab accepts a wide range of digital media including SmartMedia™ and CompactFlash™ cards, Compact Discs, Zip™ disks and IBM Microdrives™ for prints of digital picture files.

The digital lab systems has been designed to operate as stand-alone units or interconnect with the Fuji Aladdin Digital Picture Center self-service imaging kiosk and Fuji.net to provide a totally seamless and integrated imaging system that offers a full range of photographic, digital and online services.

Users can also order from a wide range of calendars, borders, novelty and occasion prints trading cards and special greetings.

As testimony to the importance Fujifilm attaches to innovation, the company recently received a number of top honours for digital innovation, industry leadership and promotion at the recent US Photo Marketing Association (PMA) 2002 Annual International Trade Show & Convention

Three Fuji FinePix digital cameras - the FinePix 2600 ZOOM, FinePix 6900 ZOOM and FinePix 30i - each earned awards, as did the Frontier 350 Digital Lab System.
