Gozitans already experiencing Maltese invasion

Although it is still early days, the Maltese are already invading Gozo – one of their favourite holiday destinations. Every year the number of Maltese visiting Malta’s sister island have been increasing. Normally thousands of Maltese visit Gozo for the Santa Maria feast but this year it seems that they are travelling to Gozo much earlier than usual.
Practically all the hotels, farmhouses and holiday flats are fully booked for the months of August with Xlendi, Marsalforn and Ramla Bay being once again the most prominent spots.

In Xlendi the three main hotels – the Serena, St Patrick and San Anton - are practically fully booked. The St Patrick, at approximately Lm30 a night for bed and breakfast, is full while the San Anton, a bit more expensive, is also on the brink full occupancy while there are few spaces left at the Serena Hotel.

Joe Camilleri, Marketing Manager of the St Patrick Hotel is also issuing free accommodation for any child between one and 12 as long as they are accompanied by a parent or adult.

The same goes for farmhouses and holiday flats. Holiday flats are being rented at around Lm10 a night on average and Sidor Spiteri, one of the owners of such holiday flats said that the period following August would be the only time that one can find units for rent.

Marsalforn and Ramla Bay and their vicinities have the same problem – if it can be called that. Business is booming with space being very limited for Maltese and tourists who looking to spend a couple days in Gozo. Flats in villages are easier to find but still most of the property owners believe they too will be taken up during the Santa Maria week feasts.
