BoV promotes Malta in Toronto

Bank of Valletta’s Canada Representative Office recently organised a Seminar in Toronto on the theme, Malta: An Emerging Financial Services Centre. The seminar helped to highlight Malta’s competitive advantages and the opportunities of using Malta as a platform to penetrate the Euro-Mediterranean region. The event was inaugurated by Finance Minister John Dalli.

Attending the seminar were senior partners from major Legal and Chartered Accountants firms, based in Toronto and Ottawa. Participants also included financial practitioners, business and tax consultants, senior managers and professionals within the field of financial services.

Addressing the guests present, BoV Chairman, Joseph F. X. Zahra said that "following the implementation of the BOV Group’s Euro-Mediterranean regional strategy, both our Canada and Australia offices have been focusing their efforts to further promote bilateral trade and investment in Canada and the Euro-Mediterranean region, particularly between Canada and Malta. Malta’s eventual European Union accession should further facilitate our bilateral relations, which will be particularly assisted by Malta’s adoption of the EU’s Free Trade Agreement with Canada".

The seminar provided information to the Canadian business community about the opportunities offered by Malta’s financial infrastructure. It also provided an insight into the future developments that would result from Malta’s prospective EU membership.

The seminar was also addressed by Michael Bonello, Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Prof. Joseph Bannister, Chairman, Malta Financial Services Authority, Dr Max Ganado of Prof. Ganado and Associates and Dr Arthur Galea Salamone, Deputy Chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange.
