The Malta High Commission in London, in conjunction with METCO, organised its fourth trade seminar in the United Kingdom in recent years. 'Malta - a strategic partner for UK companies in the Euro-Med Region' Seminar took place at the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 24 October. The purpose was to raise awareness among the business community in the Greater Birmingham area and the regions of Derbyshire, Warwickshire and the cities of Wolverhampton and Leicester on Malta's products and services, as well as Malta's potential to act as a platform for doing business within the Euro-Mediterranean region. The seminar was introduced by Peter Mathews CMG, Chairman of the Midlands World Trade Forum who explained the aims behind the establishment of such a business forum and the importance that countries like Malta see the potential in participating. Dr. Raymond C. Xerri, Counsellor at the Malta High Commission in London conducted the Seminar and explained to the participants what Malta can offer British companies in the Mediterranean Region. Representatives of businesses in the Greater Birmingham area participated actively in the seminar, which was followed by a breakfast. Air Malta was the official sponsor for this Seminar. This activity was the fourth of a series of trade seminars to be held in the main cities in the UK as part of the joint trade project between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and METCO launched on 19 September 2001 by Ministers Joe Borg and Josef Bonnici. Previous seminars took place at the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry and then Bradford, Leeds and York Chamber of Commerce and more recently Manchester. The next such Trade Seminar is earmarked to take place in the City of Cardiff early next year.
