The Malta Chamber of Commerce has been overwhelmed by booking requests for its forthcoming conference "The Costs and Benefits of the Negotiated Package with the EU". This seminar is being organised in relation to the conclusion of Maltas EU accession negotiations. It is aimed at members of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and those pertaining to its kindred organisations, namely the Association of General Retailers and Traders, Malta Employers Association, Malta Federation of Industry and Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association. Other social partners are also being invited to attend this event related to this historic decision for the country. The Chamber invited EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Mr. Gunther Verheugen; the Prime Minister of Malta and the Leader of the Opposition to address this seminar which will take place on Friday, 24 January 2003 in the Republic Hall of the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta. Chamber President Reginald Fava expressed his satisfaction for the active response and stated "I augur that all those attending may benefit from this initiative and participate in the seminar which is intended to clarify and explain Maltas negotiated conditions for eventual entry into the European Union, the ensuing challenges, costs, obligations and opportunities. It is the Chambers intention to provide all the necessary information about the subject to people in business before the latter join the remainder of the electorate in casting their vote on Maltas EU accession." At this event it is also envisaged that Mr. Reginald Fava will reveal the results of a recent survey on the negotiated package between Malta and the European Union which was conducted among Chamber members earlier this month and to which an impressive response was also forthcoming. This seminar is being organised with the kind support of the Delegation of the Commission of European Communities in Malta.
