AD working for votes and a valley

Alternattiva Demokratika continued to push for voting rights and the preservation of Kalkara valley in its election campaign this week.
AD accused MLP Secretary General Jimmy Magro of being undemocratic in the MLP’s attempt to deny Arnold Cassola and others the right to vote: "The Malta Labour Party Secretary General Jimmy Magro and the MLP leadership is in a state of panic. The MLP leadership is justifying it's undemocratic antics by targeting Prof. Arnold Cassola and in doing so the democratic credentials of the party diminish by the minute," Green Party Secretary General Stephen Cachia said.
"Jimmy Magro is trying to justify the attempt to strike off Prof. Arnold Cassola, a political opponent of his party, by quoting the law.
"At the same time the MLP Deputy Leader Dr. George Vella publicly claimed to personally disagree with this. The law says that the persons entitled to vote are those on the electoral register. Only if and when an objection is upheld is the voter struck off and his or her voting rights withdrawn.
"Alternattiva Demokratika has never filed a single objection since voting is a fundamental human right," Cachia added.
The Green Party is helping people who it claims are being denied the right to vote because of a law that prevents those who have not lived in Malta for six months of the last eighteen from voting.
AD believes the European Greens Secretary General, Arnold Cassola, will still be able to vote despite the MLP objection against him.
Members of the Green Party stepped up a gear in protests against valley development in Kalkara and one AD candidate was unceremoniously removed from the site by police.
"One of Alternattiva Demokratika’s priorities within the Kalkara area shall be to lobby for Kalkara valley be safeguarded from destructive development.
"The planned developments shall have a negative effect on the quality of life of Kalkara residents and will destroy the last lung in the area. In this regard we reiterate our support for the organic farm operating in the valley," AD candidate Chris Mizzi said.
