MV Zebbug successfully
completes intermediary survey
Sea Maltas mv Zebbug has successfully completed
an intermediate survey in a local dry dock facility. The four week long
survey is carried out every two and half years and is in line with the
class requirement to ensure the vessels structural and mechanical
reliability.
Although technically, ships can be subjected to different types of surveys,
such intermediate and special surveys are normally scheduled well before
and are conducted on a fixed periodical basis. Such a survey consists
of a comprehensive technical assessment followed by repair works on
the ships hull and machinery. Repair works were carried out under
the supervision of an appointed technical team from Sea Maltas
ship management division.
During her visit to the ship at the docks, Sea Malta Chairman Marlene
Mizzi stated that as the mv Zebbug was undergoing this survey, Sea Malta
had to ensure service continuity with a replacement ship. "Sea
Malta feels that it was duty bound to carry its corporate responsibility
by providing alternative means of transportation from Reggio Calabria
and Catania even if this effectively meant an extra and hefty expenditure
for the company. This shows that the companys accountability towards
its clients does not cease when the service has to be suspended for
repairs and as a responsible company, Sea Malta has ensured the provision
of a suitable alternative. In this regard, Sea Malta has engaged the
service of a chartered tonnage, which was nearest to the mv Zebbug in
terms of carrying capacity and onboard facilities. This was done with
the scope to mimic the same system with which clients were familiar
and hence minimise potential inconveniences."
The mv Zebbug performs three runs a week from and to Reggio Calabria
and another one from Catania from where gases for the industry and hospitals
are shipped on a regular basis and therefore, this maritime link sustains
a service, which assumes strategic importance.
In a concluding statement, Mrs Mizzi stated that the 33 year-old mv
Zebbug was a key element in the equation for guaranteeing continuity
of a frequent service between mainland Europe and Malta.
