Enemalta chairman replaced
Tancred Tabone, managing director at Forestals Group,
was yesterday appointed as Enemalta chairman, while former Nationalist
Party minister Michael Falzon was reconfirmed as chairman of the Water
Services Corporation.
Two women, Elizabeth Vella and Sarah Pule, were appointed to the WSC
board of directors while another, Helga Zahra, was appointed to the
Enemalta board. The list of WSC appointees also includes two PN local
council candidates, Mario Sammut and Elizabeth Vella.
The announcements were made by Minister for Investments Austin Gatt
and were in line with the rest of his portfolio, which includes information
technology, a number of appointees have technology backgrounds.
Tancred Tabone replaces Prof. Robert Ghirlando at the helm of the problematic
state-owned energy company. The post is not an entirely new experience
for Tabone, who served as WSC chairman between 1995 and 1997.
Since 1999 Tabone has occupied the post of chairman at the Mediterranean
Offshore Bunkering Company Ltd. In the past he was also chairman of
the Malta Trade Fair Corporation.
The other Enemalta board members announced yesterday are: deputy chairman
George Winston Borg and directors, Arthur Ciantar, Juan Borg Manduca,
Edward Cachia Caruana, Helga Zahra, Anthony Abela and Ray Soler.
The WSC sees no change at its helm with Michael Falzon confirmed as
chairman. Falzon has been heading the water-producing parastatal company
since 1998. The other board members selected by government are: deputy
chairman David Stellini and directors, Anthony Carabott, Mario Sammut,
Sarah Pule, John Abela, Joe Ross and Elizabeth Vella.
