Sex industry hopefuls speak to
Edwin Vassallo
Interested businessmen and entrepreneurs have approached
Parliamentary Secretary Edwin Vassallo on permits for lap dancing and
striptease joints, The Malta Financial and Business Times can reveal.
Earlier this week, Vassallo said in Parliament that politicians were
"under increased pressure to adopt liberal policies with regards
to sex tourism". During the adjournment of the House Vassallo called
for a public discussion on the subject since many were not aware that
MPs were under pressure to liberalise the laws in this regard.
Vassallo said that Malta does not need to become another Ibiza to attract
more tourism. Speaking to The Malta Financial and Business Times yesterday,
he said that politicians should have their own moral convictions and
they should stand by them.
Vassallo said that if such a permit would have to emanate from his secretariat,
he would not allow such permits to be given.
