Maltese firms invited to Rebuild
Iraq 2004 Fair in Kuwait
Maltese firms are being invited to take part in one of
the most ambitious reconstruction challenges of our time. The rebuilding
of Iraq, the biggest project of its kind in over half a century, offers
USD50 billion worth of contracts to companies from key infrastructure
sectors.
The opportunity is being presented by Island Fairs Limited (IFL) - a
Malta registered company specialising in the organisation of trade fairs
for the domestic and foreign markets with the goal of promoting and
developing trade opportunities between Malta and the rest of the world.
IFL has been appointed exclusive country co-ordinator for Malta and
has been entrusted to allocate stand space to Maltese companies looking
to participate in the prestigious Rebuild Iraq 2004, being held at the
Kuwait International Fair Grounds in Kuwait between 19 and 23 January
next year.
In May 2003, the UN Security Council gave the US and Britain a mandate
to govern Iraq and use its oil revenues to rebuild the country. The
resolution immediately ends economic sanctions imposed on Iraq after
its 1990 invasion of Kuwait and opens the country to international trade
and investment.
The rebuilding of Iraq, arguably the largest project of its kind since
the end of World War II, will cost in excess of USD100 billion over
the next five years (although Arab and foreign experts estimate that
the final figure will be much higher), with at least half USD50 billion
worth of projects slated to be sub-contracted to US and foreign firms.
Uniquely positioned to respond to this exceptional opportunity, Project
Iraq will bring together decision-makers, specifiers, project owners
and government bodies with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors.
Rebuild Iraq 2004 connects international suppliers with the decision-makers
overseeing the rebuilding of Iraq.
The Fair will be exhibiting a full range of infrastructure products,
services and systems needed to rebuild the country. These include food,
water, water infrastructure, hospital equipment, medicine, security
equipment, environmental tools, oil-well and refinery repair and maintenance,
oil and gas supplies, road and rail construction and development, air
and sea port construction, schools, telecom and financial systems.
Demand for the latest from all sectors
The reconstruction of Iraq's oil sector alone will cost USD15 billion,
while USD1 billion is needed to repair the telecom sector and USD20
billion has been earmarked to resuscitate the national grid. The sale
of airport communications, aircraft parts, airline services, transport,
construction, and security equipment also represent future opportunities
for companies. Elsewhere, all Iraqs ports need technological upgrades
and major clearing. Other areas where there exists significant demand
include water and agriculture, the environment, health care equipment
and services, HVAC (heating, ventilation and A/C), IT, and hotels.
Nearly USD1 billion has already been set aside by the international
community for the rebuilding of Iraq, the bulk of which has come from
US agencies. This international initiative, coupled with the undeniable
opportunities and unprecedented interest in the country make Project
Iraq the perfect forum for your company or product.
Island Fairs Limited have also announced that Emirates Airlines will
be granting specially reduced fares to Fair participants, while Carmelo
Caruana is also running a Malta-Kuwait rout for the event.
Due to the great demand for participation in the event, space is limited
and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
