maltaNET enters VoIP international
call market
maltaNET Ltd, the Internet arm of the Maltacom Group,
announced yesterday that its has have entered the Voice over IP market
with a service aimed at corporate customers. The service offers international
voice call completion to corporate customers by using the Internet as
a channel, offering a cost saving when compared to circuit switched
telephony services.
The product will be called "talkTIME".
Chief Executive Officer Keith Fearne comments, "maltaNET has always
been renowned for its better quality of service, and we intend to offer
this same quality in the VoIP market. Like we have done with our Internet
services, we will have a team specifically focused on corporate clients,
so that we can meet the higher expectations of this segment of the market.
Our rates are very competitive with the rates of other VoIP providers
in Malta, and first indications are that a number of large corporate
customers are already switching over."
Mr. Fearne also announced that a pre-paid service aimed at residential
customers is planned to be launched by the end of the year.
Technical Operations Manager Ruben Azzopardi continued that "maltaNET
has been running VoIP trials for some months, and we are now in a position
to take this to a commercial stage. The quality of VoIP cannot be guaranteed,
and this is one reason why it is cheaper than conventional telephony,
however the technology is getting better at a fast pace. It is our intention
to continue to build on our relationship with CISCO, a major supplier
of Internet equipment, to offer complete solutions to corporate customers
who over the coming years will be looking towards converging all their
data, video and voice communications over their IP infrastructure."
MaltaNET Ltd is part of the Maltacom group and operates a certified
CISCO Partner Network. Any further information on the topic may be obtained
