Third bidder cautiously
optimistic on Mater Dei tender
The new managing director for Technoline Ltd, Simon Cusens
on Monday said that he was "cautiously optimistic" the Medea
Consortium had a good chance of winning the tender for the supply of
medical equipment for the new hospital at Tal-Qroqq after the contracts
appeals board reversed the original decision.
Mr Cusens was speaking at a reception celebrating the 25th anniversary
of Technolines operations. The company, which provides medical
and scientific equipment as well as servicing, forms part of the Medea
consortium that represented the Dutch company Simed International in
the bid for the Mater Dei contract.
Mr Cussens spoke at length on the Mater Dei contract saying
that he had been working on it since 1992. spoke at length on the Mater

described the contract as an important step for the company.
Given the size of the Mater Dei contract Technoline have had to join
forces with two other rival Maltese companies to form the Medea Consortium.
The consortium represented the Dutch medical supplier Simed International
in the tender bid.
The decision by the contracts appeals board to reverse the original
decision to award the tender to Italian consortium Inso and the subsequent
decision to disqualify German consortium Hospitalia International has
left the third bidder, Simed International, high and dry with the possibility
of clinching the tender bid.
