Up to a few days ago Josef Bonnici’s career was sinking into oblivion after he refused Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi’s offer to take up the post of parliamentary secretary in the finance ministry.
But like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, Prof. Bonnici will probably soon find himself working full time with the European Court of Auditors, a post he will retain for six years. READ MORE >>
Should his appointment be confirmed, Josef Bonnici’s appointment to the European Court of Auditors will mean that he will make way for a new face in Parliament. To accept the appointment Bonnici will have to resign his parliamentary seat, effectively ending his party political career. READ MORE >>

A European Commission lawsuit instituted against tobacco giants Philip Morris International and RJ Reynolds has alleged that the multinationals have been in the habit of shipping suspiciously large quantities of cigarettes to Malta, Cyprus and Gibraltar with the knowledge that any excess stock would eventually be smuggled into the EU.
