Further strengthening its long-standing commitment to the Microsoft development community, Oracle announced its support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.
Oracle intends to offer a free plug-in for Visual Studio 2005 to enable tight integration between Visual Studio 2005 and Oracle Database 10g by May 2006, the end of its fiscal year.
Oracle will also offer a new Oracle Data Provider for .NET in support of ADO.NET 2.0, Microsoft's standard for data access.
Currently, Oracle offers Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio .NET, a free plug-in that enables developers to use Visual Studio .NET 2003 to develop and deploy Oracle Database 10g applications. Supporting Visual Studio 2005 will increase productivity for developers building .NET Framework-based applications and will continue to enable developers to take full advantage of Oracle Database 10g.
Oracle Database 10g is also incorporating several capabilities in support of ADO.NET 2.0 that make it easier for developers to access information from the database. Features such as XML support, database change notification, and connection pool management APIs are already included in Oracle Database 10g. Oracle plans to provide support for provider factories, metadata schemas, and connection string builder that are part of ADO.NET 2.0.
Oracle Database 10g also offers Windows developers some unique features including connection pool management for Oracle Real Application Clusters; array data type parameters; proxy user authentication, application security context; result set retrieval performance tuning; and LOB retrieval performance tuning.
Since 1985, Oracle has helped thousands of customers build mission-critical database systems on the Microsoft platform. Oracle is a Premier partner in the Microsoft Visual Studio Industry Partner (VSIP) program, and as a result offers tight integration between Oracle Database and Visual Studio .NET and Windows Server 2003. Today, Oracle offers Oracle Database for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Server 2003. Additionally, Windows customers can take advantage of Oracle Real Application Clusters which allow them to turn a cluster of low-cost, industry standard servers running Windows into a highly available, scalable and secure platform for running database and packaged applications.
