Air Malta launched its Summer 2006 schedule of operations running from 26 March till 28 October. The schedule presents Air Malta customers travelling from the Malta base with a choice of no less than 54 destinations and over 215 flights every week. The airline is reaffirming its stated commitment to offer both Maltese and tourists the best connections and service to and from the Maltese islands.
“This summer will be an exciting season for Air Malta and its customers,” said Joe Cappello, Chief Operating Officer. “We have increased the number of destinations and frequencies over last summer. We will be operating to two new destinations - Naples and Porto - and increasing services to Munich, Düsseldorf, Toulouse, Nantes, Paris, Reggio Calabria, Moscow and St. Petersburg. The airline will also be expanding its intra-European operations with increased frequencies on the Catania - London route and launching a new service between Reggio and Rome as well as between Palermo and Naples.”
This summer Air Malta will start operating a daily flight to Munich departing Malta at 0930hrs, a new service to Düsseldorf every Saturday to complement the Wednesday, Friday and Sunday operations, an additional weekly service to Nantes and Toulouse whereby Air Malta will now operate twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays, an additional Saturday afternoon flight to Paris, thus increasing the number of Malta-Paris weekly flights to 10 and also an increase on the Reggio Calabria route where Air Malta will be operating with 5 weekly flights. In peak summer months Air Malta will also increase services to Moscow’s Domodedevo (from 3 to 4 times weekly) and to St. Petersburg from a weekly to a twice weekly service.
This summer Air Malta is expanding its intra European network of destinations with a new weekly service on the Catania-London (Gatwick)-Catania route which will now be increased to a 4-times weekly operation. New additions this season include a 5-times weekly service introduced between Rome-Reggio-Rome, a 2-times weekly Palermo-Naples-Palermo service, a 2-times weekly flight between Toulouse-Nantes and a weekly service between Lisbon-Porto. The operation of these domestic European services could only come about as a result of Malta’s accession to the European Union.
Air Malta will be operating with a fleet of 13 aircraft; 5 Airbus A319s, 5 Airbus A320s and 3 Boeing 737-300. Two of the A320 aircraft are stationed in Air Malta’s UK bases of Birmingham and Bristol.
“This season will see the launch of an exciting new project that we are sure will improve our passengers experience on board our flights. In a couple of months we hope to go live with our in-flight entertainment system” announced Cappello. “This month a brand new Airbus A320 was delivered with the 10th new aircraft expected next May. During 2007, Air Malta will receive the last remaining two new aircraft thus completing the fleet replacement project. Air Malta’s fleet average age will go down to 2.5 years, becoming one of the youngest fleets in Europe and throughout the world. The new fleet will provide added comfort and improved service to passengers. This is more good news for our customers”, added Joe Cappello.
