Three international tax experts in Malta as visiting lecturers

World renowned international tax experts Professor Philip Baker, Professor Guglielmo Maisto, Professor Pasquale Pistone shall be visiting lecturers at MIM. The International presence of the Malta Institute of Management is once again giving unique opportunities to the Financial Services Sector in Malta.
 Every year MIM is providing the sector with new opportunities. 2006 saw the launch of the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation which is still running successfully. In 2007 MIM held the Diploma In VAT compliance, The International Taxation Conference and now the  EC Tax Law courses.In November, MIM will have Dr Christiana HJI Panayi Lecturer in Tax Law,  Centre for Commercial Law Studies Queen Mary, University of London Guglielmo Maisto founded Maisto e Associati in 1991. He is a Professor of Tax Law at the Catholic University of Piacenza; he has acted as a consultant to the Ministry for European Community Affairs and is the Chairman of the delegated Board of Trustees of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD) in Amsterdam.  He is the Chairman of the legal and tax committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy and represents the Italian Association of Industries at the OECD Business Industry Advisory Committeein Paris. He is a member of several law societies internationally and of the editorial board of various Italian and foreign tax legal journals. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Fiscal Association xand has acted as general and national reporter at several of its annual congresses.
Pasquale Pistone, is fluent in seven EU languages and graduated in Law magna cum laude at the Federico II University of Naples in 1990. He gained his Ph.D. cum dignitate publicationis in International and Comparative Tax Law at the University of Genoa in 2000. During the past decade he has been lecturing at a number of Universities and scientific institutions in Europe and South America, as well as reporting at a number of international tax conferences and seminars.
He is an associate professor of tax law at the University of Salerno, where he has been lecturer since 2001, and a member of the Faculty of various LL.M. programmes in International and European Tax Law across Europe (European Tax College, Leiden and Vienna LL.M. programmes in International Tax Law). Furthermore, he is member of the editorial board of the specialised international tax review Intertax and author of two books and more than fifty publications in five EU languages.
 Philip Baker joined Gray’s Inn Chambers in 1987, having been a full-time lecturer in law at London University from 1979 until then.
He has maintained some links with academia, and is now Visiting Professorial Fellow in International Taxation at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary, University of London. He specialises primarily in international aspects of taxation,
which covers both corporate and private client matters. He also has a particular interest in taxation and the European Convention on
Human Rights, on which he has been involved in training the General and Special Commissioners and members of VAT Tribunals.
He is a member of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, of the Committee of the UK Branch of the International Fiscal Association, and the International Tax Sub-Committee of the Law Society. In 1997 he was awarded an OBE for work with Chinese political refugees in the UK.
MIM Training Chairman, Reuben Buttigieg, said that these new courses together with the forthcoming conference on EC Tax Law are a further contribution that MIM is giving towards the Financial Services Industry in Malta. If Malta is truly to become the EuroMed Financial services centre then specialization in these important areas is fundamental. Malta, thanks to MIM , is the only EU country apart from the UK providing such specialized training. Reuben Buttigieg encourages MIM members as well as tax professionals in Malta,waccountants and lawyers to benefit from the opportunities given by MIM.
