For the President's Award Malta, training is of utmost importance in the delivery of the Award Programme. The commitment to training was further demonstrated during the first week in November when the organisation coordinated a ‘Training the Trainers’ course to further strengthen the scheme, and create a Maltese Training Panel of qualified trainers to support the Award in Malta.
The Award is run on a voluntary basis and six dedicated adult volunteers came together at the Paradise Bay Hotel for a three-day course. This was conducted by Jana Farrugia and Yiannos Papaioannou from the European, Mediterranean and Arab States (EMAS) Region of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award International Association.
The seminar covered various training methods and techniques, and together with a presentation by Colin Calleja from ‘Let me Learn – Malta’, gave the participants an in-depth view of the science of training.
Participants also had the opportunity to try their hand at practical training, and demonstrated the power and effectiveness of team work and preparation.
The President's Award offers a voluntary programme of activities to young people between the ages of 14 and 25.
It is run in various schools and organisations in Malta and Gozo, some of which are St Aloysius College, San Andrea Secondary School, the Scouts Association, and the Girl Guides Association.
