TPPI to debate on rent reform

The Today Public Policy institute [TPPI] is organising a public debate on the issues raised by the recently published White Paper on Rent Reform.
Some questions that the TPPI discussion hopes to raise are: After years in gestation, does the White Paper offer proposals that are commensurate to the scale of the challenges? Or does it promise to give birth to a mouse? Does the White Paper offer a balance between the rights of property owners and the rights of tenants? Is ‘balance’ at all possible in the circumstances? In a case like this, can one have ‘justice’ and ‘balance’ at the same time? Does the White Paper’s advocacy of gradual change entail any hidden economic costs?
The panelists invited to give their views on the issues include: Mr David Spiteri Gingell, advisor to Minister John Dalli on rent law reform, Dr Therese Comodini Cachia, a lawyer, with a particular interest in human and other rights and Mr Trafford Busuttil, President of the Federation of Estate Agents. The debate will be chaired by Mr Ranier Fsadni.
This is the first of many TPPI Think-Tank Debates. It will be held on Thursday 10th July at the Chamber of Commerce in Valletta. All are most welcome to attend. The debate will take place in the air-conditioned conference room and there will be light refreshments served afterwards. For more information please contact [email protected].
