'Encounters with Malta' - a millennium project of Vodafone As the first year of the new millennium comes to an end, Vodafone is celebrating the launching of a prestigious book specially commissioned for the year 2000 - a year which also marks the 10th anniversary of the company's operations in Malta. This important 400-page volume, consisting of a survey of around 300 famous or celebrated men and women from all over the world who enjoyed some form of 'encounter' with the Maltese Islands, was presented to His Excellency the President of Malta, Guido de Marco, by Vodafone's Managing Director, Mr Joe C. Grioli, and Professor Fr Peter Serracino Inglott and Petra Bianchi, the editors of the book. The list of distinguished personalities include St Paul, Grand Master Valetta, Queen Elizabeth, Caravaggio, Victor Pasmore, Count Roger, Anthony Burgess, Emperor Hirohito and Pope John Paul II. Eight of Malta's top writers joined forces to put together a wealth of facts, anecdotes, historical analysis and illustrations. The book contains contributions by Giovanni Bonello, Nicholas de Piro, Richard England, Thomas Freller, Emy Scicluna and Paul Xuereb, and is introduced with a preface by President de Marco. "This publication is a treasure of knowledge about various personalities which should find its place in every Maltese household," said President de Marco. He commended both editors for their efforts and Vodafone for its sponsorship which has brought this project to fruition. Mr Grioli said: "We are proud to have sponsored such a publication that will be a source of pride for us, as well as being a revelation to those overseas visitors who choose to take an interest in Maltese history." 'Encounters with Malta' is now available at leading booksellers all over Malta and Gozo. | ||||||||
