Six-year high for Euro-zone inflation

The EU annual rate of consumer price inflation jumped 0.2 percentage points to 2.9 per cent in November, aided by a 0.8 percentage point rise in energy prices to 15.3 per cent.

Both Germany and Italy recorded strong increases in inflation. German prices were up 2.6 per cent on the year, compared with 2.4 per cent in October. Italian inflation rose 0.2 percentage points to 2.9 per cent. Every single member state recorded a rate above the European Central Bank's target ceiling of 2 per cent. Euro-zone inflation as a whole breached the ceiling back in June, and has remained above it ever since.
