[ READ FULL ARTICLE ] Irish premier visit heralds the year of the Heads of States The Irish premier Bernie Ahern's visit to Malta heralds a new trend that will take up many of this year's calendar of activities. And more heads of states are expected to visit Malta in the future. The visits by the European Union heads of state are expected to contribute in pumping some adrenaline into the government's European Union accession process. To keep up with the Heads of States' visits, the Europhobes are expected to counter these visits with high profile eurosceptics Mr Ahern, a charismatic premier, emphasised the pluses EU membership had brought to Ireland's economy during his visit. To counter Mr Ahern's visit, the Campaign for National Independence - a hotch potch of right wing and left wing extremists operating under the Labour party umbrella - organised a parallel visit by Irish nationalist Anthony Coughlan. Mr Coughlan, who was invited to Malta in the guise of an economist, is best known in Ireland for his strong views on the so-called British occupation of Northern Ireland. Mr Coughlan was welcomed to Malta by the Leader of the Opposition. Mr Coughlan insisted with Alfred Sant that Ireland's prosperity had nothing to do with EU membership.
