Compensation claims to be settled
Persons who were awarded compensation for injustices they suffered years ago, but who were never paid what was due to them, are to be awarded an ex-gratia compensation of not more then Lm5,000 each.

Addressing a press conference at Castille, yesterday the Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami said that government will pay a total of Lm367,916 to 108 persons in settlement for the injustices they suffered. The cases were decided by the now defunct Commission for the Investigation of Injustices, that was set up after 1987 by the Nationalist government.

Government and state corporations paid out a total of Lm1,427,584 in settlement of injustice cases decided by the Commission during the years it was operational.
