Harry Vassallo addresses UHM General Council

Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Dr Harry Vassallo was guest speaker at the close of the General Council of the Union Haddiema Maqghudin.
In his address, Dr Vassallo commented, "The report on EU accession prepared by the UHM is a service not only to UHM members but to the whole community. The EU accession process has created the need for data gathering and made us all look afresh at our reality."
"AD has worked in parallel with UHM in resisting the application of transitory periods with regard to EU directives which will significantly improve working conditions and labour safety. It will continue to insist on their early implementation."
"The spectacular growth in environmental awareness in recent months is the fruit of data gathering which revealed an alarmining environmental situation. This is a reality which is of direct interest to all unions as the challenge of our time. Early death and chronic disease, apart from being human tragedies, threaten the country's productive capability. It is a challenge for all of us".
Dr Vassallo also said that AD fully supports reforms in the Conditions of Employment Relations Act (CERA), which has not been reformed for the past 50 years. "We support Unions in their plight for the guarantee of workers' rights."
