Vodafone Malta and RIM launch the BlackBerry Storm smartphone in Malta

Vodafone Malta Limited and Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today introduced the BlackBerry® Storm™ smartphone in the Maltese market. Purposely built for Vodafone and its partners, the BlackBerry Storm brings entertainment, information and the renowned functionality of the BlackBerry solution to the tips of your fingers through the world’s first ‘clickable’ touch-screen. Vodafone Malta is offering the BlackBerry Storm smartphone at €565 without contract, however various discounts are being offered to customers based on the tariff plan selected. The BlackBerry Storm is also being offered free on two of Vodafone’s pay monthly plans.
The BlackBerry Storm smartphone is a perfect choice for both consumers and business users looking for state-of-the-art multimedia capabilities in a smartphone that makes a statement in the office and out on the town. Its unique ‘clickable’ touch-screen gives users an experience they can actually feel -- the display depresses ever so slightly when the screen is pressed, enhancing the touch interface for both typing and navigation. The stylish smartphone also boasts superior performance, a stunning display, 3G support, built-in GPS, desktop-style web pages, advanced media player, 3.2 megapixel camera, premium phone features and the industry’s leading email and messaging capabilities – all designed to give users an exceptional mobile experience.
“We are confident that the BlackBerry Storm will provide our customers with the necessary tools to stay in touch with colleagues, friends and family from wherever they are,” said Inaki Berroeta, CEO of Vodafone Malta.
“We are pleased to introduce the BlackBerry Storm with Vodafone to customers in Malta,” commented Mark Guibert, Vice President of Corporate Marketing at RIM. “Consumers and business customers alike will appreciate the BlackBerry Storm smartphone for its unique ‘clickable’ touch-screen and full featured multimedia capabilities.”
Through its revolutionary touch-screen, virtual keyboards on the BlackBerry Storm smartphone respond much like a physical keyboard for easy and precise typing; and the touch screen interface supports single-touch, multi-touch and gestures for intuitive and efficient navigation. The BlackBerry Storm can also be used in a portrait or landscape orientation to suit the task at hand.
Whether shopping for a gift online, editing an important office document or reading a map, the BlackBerry Storm smartphone brings images to life with stunning clarity through its gorgeous 3.25-inch (480x360 at 184 ppi) display. A multimedia powerhouse, the BlackBerry Storm smartphone supports video streaming from mobile sites like YouTube (m.youtube.com), and has a built-in media player that handles a number of music and video formats. It can even be synchronised with iTunes® and Windows Media Player* for you to enjoy your music on the move or use with the BlackBerry® Music Gateway to enjoy songs through your home stereo. The 3.2 megapixel camera features variable zoom, auto focus and a powerful flash that also provides continuous lighting when recording video. Through its integrated GPS, the BlackBerry Storm smartphone can pinpoint its exact location to support geotagging photos, as well as applications like BlackBerry® Maps and other location-based applications and services.
Preloaded with a broad selection of applications that were custom-built for use on BlackBerry smartphones, the BlackBerry Storm enables you to simply and easily keep your web community pages current, chat with friends and colleagues on popular instant messaging services or even add pictures to your online photo collections on Flickr™.
