MHRA application for UNWTO membership successful

The MHRA affiliate Membership with UNWTO has been confirmed in recognition of the role MHRA plays within the Tourism Industry.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO/OMT) is a specialized agency of the United ‎Nations and the leading international organization in the field of tourism. It serves as a ‎global forum for tourism policy issues and a practical source of tourism know-how.‎
UNWTO plays a central and decisive role in promoting the development of responsible, ‎sustainable and universally accessible tourism, paying particular attention to the ‎interests of developing countries. The Organization encourages the implementation ‎of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, with a view to ensuring that member ‎countries, tourist destinations and businesses maximize the positive economic, ‎social and cultural effects of tourism and fully reap its benefits, while minimizing its ‎negative social and environmental impacts.
UNWTO membership includes 161 countries and territories and more than 370 Affiliate ‎Members representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations ‎and local tourism authorities.‎
This membership enhances MHRA’s role within the international tourism industry and strengthens its position locally to be able to continue contributing to the on going growth and success of the local tourism industry that remains so vital to the overall economy of our Islands.
MHRA is also a member of HOTREC in Brussels which represents the hotel, restaurant and café industry at European level. HOTREC brings together 40 national hospitality associations in 25 countries across the European Union and represents 1.6 million businesses, with 92% of them being micro enterprises employing less than 10 people. The Hospitality industry provides some 9 million jobs in the EU alone. HOTREC’s mission is to promote the interests of these enterprises vis-a-vis the European institutions and monitor continually EU policies that have an impact on the hospitality sector. HOTREC is the voice of the sector and brings its concerns to EU decision-makers to enable hotels, restaurateurs and cafes to develop successfully and provide more jobs and growth in their respective economies.
