Residential, non-domestic tariffs higher than October 2008 rates

Charlot Zahra

The electricity tariffs announced by the Malta Resources Authority (MRA) on Wednesday show that Enemalta has gone back again to the electricity tariffs introduced a year ago with the dissent of all the social partners. In fact, tabulations made by Business Today on the electricity tariffs show that in the case of residential premises, the consumption up to 10,000 kWh will be billed at exactly the same rates as last year’s.
However in the higher consumption rates will see a significant jump in the tariffs when compared with last year. Consumption between 10,000 kWh and 19,999 kWh a year will jump by 72.24 per cent when compared to the October 2008 tariffs, while consumption exceeding 20,000 kWh a year will jump by 167.24 per cent when compared to the October 2008 tariffs.
Likewise, non-residential tariffs will see an average rise of 10 per cent when compared to the October 2008 tariffs.
