Malta leads in e-commerce

Malta has turned out to rank the highest in e-commerce turnover with non-EU countries with a surprising at 56 per cent, distantly followed by Slovakia at 34 per cent and Ireland with 23 per cent, while it placed itself amongst the highest in Europe (93 per cent) in proportion of enterprises with broadband connection.
Figures issued by the EU yesterday revealed that the share of enterprise turnover generated from e-commerce during 2008 varied significantly between member states. The highest shares were recorded in Ireland with 26 per cent, while Finland and Sweden, both registered 18 per cent. Malta’s share was 11 per cent, together with Slovakia and ahead of Lithuania, Poland and Romania.
Hungary obtained the highest e-commerce turnover with other EU member states at 50 per cent. Malta had 37 per cent.
