Barclays is perhaps the most renowned name in banking among the Maltese
and, following a long absence, it re-established its banking services
on the Islands just two years ago.
More recently,
Barclays set up an International Investments facility through which
it now sells its own funds. David Lindsay

More then 1,500kg of VAT receipts
in lottery bid
No one at the Lotto Department bothers to count the large number of
VAT receipts participating in the regular monthly lottery, but the Director
of Public Lotto, Alfred Muscat revealed that the total weight of the
receipts has reached an access of 1,500kg a month. But inside sources
said this equalled 7 million receipts a month

Stanley Leisure to return to UK
following abolition of betting tax
Less than a year since Stanley Leisure set up its Internet betting arm
in tax-friendly Malta, the company has announced that it will be repatriating
its Malta operations back to the UK by the end of the year
Seminar and workshop on assessment,
examination and certification of seafarers
Different methods and procedures for the assessment, examination and
certification of seafarers will be discussed during a five day seminar
and workshop which is being organized by the International Maritime
Organisation in collaboration with the Malta Maritime Authority. The
event, the sixth in a series of regional seminars organized worldwide
is being held at the Radisson SAS Bay Point Resort and was inaugurated
by the Hon. Censu Galea, Minister for Transport and Communications
Crown Works/Horn Works Action Plan
approved
The Planning Authority has approved an action plan for the Crown Works
and Horn Works area in Blata l-Bajda. The Plan includes two major proposals:
A park and ride scheme for Valletta and Floriana and a Carnival Centre.
The Plan has been presented to Government for its approval.
Trade license procedure revamped
A new draft law states that trade licences will no longer be issued
by police stations but rather from the relevant authority or department
responsible for the commercial activity in question.
Dalli applauds NAO, stresses that
further changes must be made
Speaking at the fourth anniversary of the National Audit Office yesterday,
Finance Minister John Dalli applauded the fact that the NAO is undergoing
the necessary changes needed for a modern state audit institution
