Mosta Technopark’s self-management success

"Self-management has always been a tool through which pride and a sense of belonging are fostered to bring about a higher standard of results – and this is what the Mosta Technopark Tenants Association has achieved," MTTA Chairman, Henry J. Borg recently commented said this while addressing the first Annual General meeting of his association – a year after the tenants themselves took over the running of the Estate from the Malta Development Corporation.

Among the results mentioned by Mr Borg, were the planned maintenance programme for the entire park, including the upkeep of all public areas and the upgrading of landscaped areas.

"Another issue on all our minds was that of security at the park. We made various enquiries as to the way this should be done and we succeeded in getting the best possible terms from one of our own members. In fact a comprehensive CCTV security system covers the whole perimeter of the park," Mr Borg added.

In his concluding remarks Mr Borg stressed the point that the tight monetary policy adopted by his association was the key to their success so far. He said that he had also asked the appointed independent auditors to not only review the finances, but also the whole operation of the MTTA. Mr Borg also proposed that these auditors be given the right to attend Council meetings with a status of observer members – a proposal accepted by all MTTA members.

"Efficiency and cost-effectiveness are only achieved when the principle of value for money is adopted and a transparent way of doing things becomes the order of the day. This is what makes the Mosta Technopark the best-kept industrial area in Malta," Mr Borg concluded.
