Lobbying campaign enters new phase
The pro and anti EU lobbies will enter into a different stage of campaigning
tomorrow evening when the series of political broadcasts organised by
the Broadcasting Authority about the future relations between Malta
and the EU, kicks off with a discussion on property.

The Price Club chain of supermarkets still remains closed months after
the business crashed disastrously. Although the directors of the beleaguered
company are hoping that a buyer will still materialise, they have twice
watched negotiations with potential buyers waver and fail.
Shops to be given easy late-night shopping
option
As from next month, shop owners will have the chance to open their outlets
up until 10pm, provided they apply for the necessary licence. The move
forms part of the new trading licence regulations which are currently
coming into force.
Mobile phones just over the halfway
mark
Statistics released by the National Statistics Office show that during
the third quarter last year more than half of the population had a mobile
phone subscription clearly indicating that Malta is fast approaching
saturation point in the mobile phone sector.

Malta contributes to tourism recovery
committee
Tourism Minister Michael Refalo last Friday participated in the second
meeting of the Tourism Recovery Committee, a high level meeting attended
by tourism ministers worldwide to discuss the impacts of the 11 September
on tourism. Dr Refalo was accompanied by MTA Chief Executive, Leslie
Vella.
Mosta Technoparks self-management
success
"Self-management has always been a tool through which pride and
a sense of belonging are fostered to bring about a higher standard of
results and this is what the Mosta Technopark Tenants Association
has achieved," MTTA Chairman, Henry J. Borg recently commented
said this while addressing the first Annual General meeting of his association
a year after the tenants themselves took over the running of
the Estate from the Malta Development Corporation.
The EU - the Mediterraneans
largest trading partner
According to statistics released by Eurostat yesterday, over 2000 the
Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC) conducted nearly half of their
total trade (imports + exports) with the EU. The United States, with
14.1 per cent of total MPC trade, ranked second behind the EU as a trading
partner. In 2001, the EU conducted 7.1 per cent of its total extra-EU
trade with the MPCs
