Transport Minister Jesmond Mugliett yesterday announced the new board of the Transport Authority, replacing the chairman, Charles Demicoli, with Mark Portelli.
The unexpected announcement was made in the wake of a change in the minister responsible for transport. Demicoli was appointed Transport Authority chairman by former Transport Minister Censu Galea, who is now responsible for Competitiveness and Communications.
Asked yesterday why he changed the chairman, Mugliett said he wanted to see changes in the authority.
“I would like to see better customer care, a change in operations, better management of road works and quantity surveying,” he said.
Mark Portelli is also the Chairman of the Freeport. Philip Incorvaja, who was a board member, was appointed Deputy Chairman instead of Victor Cristina. Board member Arthur Gauci was also removed, as was board secretary Richard Sladden who was replaced by Duncan Borg Myatt, while Paul Cardona retained his post on the board, with new members Ivan Fsadni and Angele Giuliano.
The new board’s term expires on 17 May next year. |
