An Open Day held at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology Institute of Information & Communication Technology on Friday 10 June was a successful event.
The objective of the day was to bring Industry closer to MCAST. There are a number of companies in the ICT sector who are still not aware of the work being carried out by the Institute. The competencies learnt by students on different courses could be observed and appreciated by their possible future employers.
All student guardians and over 300 organisations where invited to take part on this eventful day. Printed material describing the layout of the Institute and room allocations of the various projects was distributed to all guests with the aim to guide them on their tour.
Visitors were brought up to date on the work being undertaken by the 600 students attending the Institute. Visitors were able to meet the students, view projects on offer at all levels, and tour the 18 labs at the Institute. Moreover, topic specific lectures where held by IT specialists from ETC, Maltanet, MITTS, Megabyte, Malta Computer Society, Farsons Group and Oracle Malta. Students and visitors could walk in and attend the sessions as per the pre-set programme prepared for the event.
There are a number of programmes on offer, and at the end of their respective courses, students are provided with the right Hardware, Networking, Web and Software Development skills to be able to work in the ICT sector or other sectors requiring IT specialists.
Occasions such as this allow Industry, parents and prospective students to see first hand what the Institute has to offer.
The Institute would like to thank all the staff for their valued contribution to the success of this event. |
