IMAGO europæ 2009: Urban Creativity

On the occasion of the European Year of ‘Creativity and Innovation’, 2009, the Tuscan Europe Direct, EU’s information and communication centres, announced the second edition of the Photo contest “IMAGO europae 2009”, which this year is dedicated to the theme of “Urban Creativity “.

Finalities and objectives of the Competition.
The European Year of ‘Creativity and Innovation’, 2009 aims to increase awareness and importance of the modes of creativity and innovation as key competences for the personal, social and economic development. An acknowledgment of these new creative approaches intend to promote a diffused knowledge-society an thus better equip EU citizens to face societal challenges amongst educational, social, economic and productive sectors.
The competition recognises creativity as a key factor in the development of personal competences, as well as professional, entrepreneurial and for the working individual. Indeed, it highlights the aperture of diverse cultures, and favours intercultural communication and stimulates artistic links, through creative expression. Serving to reduce cultural breaches and increase change through creative resolutions to problems within the professional and social contexts.
The main objective of the competition is to spread European awareness across its many cities by involving its public directly in discovering their creative and innovative expression through photography. This exchange of urban creativity enables one to see the possibilities and capacity of transformation and innovation throughout the European cities. Each photo having a local identity faces other forms of creativity on a European scale, thus enabling traditions and originality to emerge.
The photos should thus aspire to these dimensions and offer an original contribution, both on an artistic level and European. There are no limits as to what the subject of the photo may be, however it must represent a subject that calls for the attention of all EU citizens.
