GO Mobile removes time window

Franica Pulis

GO Mobile removed all time-window restrictions on its pre-paid customers, a company statement announced Monday, while yesterday GO sent a text message to its pre-paid subscribers to inform them of this development.
The first local mobile telephony service provider not to impose time window restrictions was Melita Mobile, since when it launched its service last February, no such limitations were in force. Vodafone Malta followed suit in April.
But Red Touch Fone and Bay Mobile haven’t yet taken off their time windows. Currently both MVNOs prepaid subscriptions expire 30 days after buying €5 credit, 90 days after buying €10 and 180 days after buying €20.
Alternattiva Demokratika spokesperson for ICT Henrik Piski last July pointed out that in certain in countries such as Germany, the removal of time-window restrictions was enforced by a court decision. He had added that Maltese mobile phone operators should do the same.
Last March, Roberta Metsola Tedesco Triccas started an online petition against time windows, which currently has 1,600 signatures. She also opened a Facebook group which currently has almost 700 members.
